When speaking with Lebanese jeweller Nada Ghazal at her newly opened Pont Street boutique in London, her homeland remains entrenched in uncertainty and ongoing conflict, leaving her deeply concerned for her family, staff, and ateliers in Beirut. Alongside the geopolitical tension, recent months have brought profound personal loss, with Ghazal noting the passing of two family members this year.

Despite these trials, the essence of Lebanon remains deeply woven into Ghazal's jewellery collections, translating experiences of joy, grief, hope, and survival into wearable art. Her creative journey began in childhood, shaped by hours spent watching her grandmother crochet and experimenting with clay, thread, beads, and wire as early forms of self-expression.

Even at a young age, Ghazal harboured global ambitions, telling her father during a visit to New York that she envisioned her brand showcased in the city's finest windows. That aspiration materialized in 2024 when she celebrated her brand's 20th anniversary with a special pop-up at Bergdorf Goodman.

Lacking formal jewellery design training in Lebanon during the 1980s, Ghazal pursued graphic design and fine arts at the American University of Beirut before working in advertising in Dubai. This background instilled in her the importance of narrative in design. Her 2004 debut collection, Organised Chaos, reflected the stark contrast between her structured life in Dubai and the vibrant unpredictability of returning to Beirut.

Ghazal draws endless inspiration from Lebanon's unique blend of beauty, resilience, and history, channeling these contradictions into bold yet feminine, edgy yet sensual pieces. Collections like Malak celebrate the multifaceted nature of femininity, while Pop of Hope embodies optimism for the future.

Her creative process originates in journals, sketches, and emotional fragments rather than a rigid design schedule. Her latest collection, Whispers of Joy, was born during intense emotional upheaval, evolving through waves of grief and renewed resilience. Demonstrating her commitment to authenticity, Ghazal famously instructed her team to melt down an entire nearly-complete collection just weeks before its Las Vegas launch to recapture the true essence of joy she originally envisioned.

Crafted in matt 18k yellow gold speckled with champagne diamonds, amethyst, and vibrant sapphires, the final pieces reflect a light, playful spirit born from love and storytelling. Looking forward, Ghazal aims to establish jewellery education programmes in Lebanon to preserve the nation's rich craft traditions while cementing her brand as a creator of permanent jewellery meant to be cherished and passed down through generations.
