Egypt’s Nour al-Din Zaki secured two medals on Monday during the weightlifting events at the 2026 Mediterranean Games, hosted in Taranto, Italy. The Egyptian weightlifter triumphed with a gold medal in the snatch category and earned a silver medal in the clean and jerk for the 65 kg weightlifting division.

With these latest achievements, the Pharaohs have accumulated a total of 38 medals at the Mediterranean Games. This performance places Egypt in strong contention among the leading nations and secures its position at the forefront of Arab countries, boasting 12 gold, 13 silver, and 13 bronze medals.

The 20th edition of the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, runs until September 3, featuring 3,803 athletes representing 26 countries. The Egyptian delegation is actively competing across 23 sports, including archery, athletics, badminton, 3×3 basketball, boxing, canoeing and kayaking, equestrian, fencing, aquatic sports and short-course swimming, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, padelling, rowing, sailing, shooting, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, fin swimming, and amateur roller skating.

Historically, Egypt holds the sixth position globally for the most medals in the history of the Mediterranean Games, accumulating a remarkable total of 620 medals across various categories, which include 156 gold medals, 209 silver medals, and 255 bronze medals.
