Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad led discussions on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, regarding innovative proposals to develop nature reserves sustainably and boost ecotourism. Speaking at the 76th meeting of the board of directors of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA), Awad emphasized the necessity of rigorous environmental monitoring and strict adherence to ecological standards for all investment projects.
The high-level gathering featured EEAA CEO Sherif Abdel Rahim alongside key representatives from the ministries of defense, industry, foreign affairs and international cooperation, planning and economic development, water resources and irrigation, health, and higher education and scientific research. Officials from the ministry of local development and environment and various environmental experts were also in attendance.
During the session, the board reviewed previous meeting resolutions, evaluated private sector investment applications for natural destinations, and focused on preserving geological and ecological traits. Awad urged officials to foster an environment that attracts private investment, creates local jobs, and enhances visitor infrastructure while safeguarding biodiversity and natural resources.
