Barcelona have successfully completed the signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal on a contract running until 2029. The move comes after the Catalan club were unable to secure Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid.
“Barcelona and Arsenal have reached a deal for the Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus,” the club announced in an official statement, with Spanish media outlets reporting the transfer fee to be approximately 10 million euros ($11.6m). Jesus arrives to strengthen an attacking lineup that lost Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres earlier in the summer transfer window.
Despite pursuing Alvarez throughout the summer, Barcelona shifted their focus after Atletico Madrid refused to negotiate. When asked about arriving as a secondary option, Jesus stated, “I’m not offended. I have the chance to be here at Barcelona. I had a chance 10 years ago, and life took me in another direction, but now I can be here, and it’s a dream for me.”
Coach Hansi Flick expressed enthusiasm about the addition following his team's 5-2 La Liga victory over Rayo Vallecano, which Jesus watched from the stands at Camp Nou. The 29-year-old forward previously scored 32 goals for Arsenal and 95 goals during his six-year tenure with Manchester City.
Jesus is Barcelona’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window, joining a list that includes Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, Jesse Bisiwu, Joao Cancelo, Rodri, and Dominik Livakovic.
