Qatar has dispatched a fully equipped field hospital to Colombia to bolster relief operations following the devastating 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck last month. A Qatari military aircraft carrying essential humanitarian aid, including the mobile field hospital, landed in Bogotá to assist communities impacted by the disaster.

The aircraft departed Doha carrying the hospital unit, which was provided by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) as a key component of Qatar's ongoing humanitarian response. Video footage shared by Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation Maryam bint Ali Al Misnad captured the arrival in the Colombian capital. Qatar’s Ambassador to Colombia Issa bin Jaber Al Kuwari was also present alongside Foreign Ministry officials to oversee the unloading of supplies.

The newly arrived facility will assist Colombian health authorities and local medical centers in disaster-stricken regions, delivering critical healthcare and boosting the capacity of the nation's health sector during the emergency. Additionally, Lekhwiya’s Qatari International Search and Rescue Group is assisting with the setup and handover processes to ensure medical operations commence rapidly.

The humanitarian intervention follows the powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake that hit western Colombia on August 10, with its epicenter located near San José del Palmar in Chocó province. Major cities including Cali and Pereira suffered severe impacts. According to a United Nations Development Programme assessment based on official figures as of August 28, the disaster resulted in 331 deaths, 4,449 injuries, and 143 missing persons, while affecting over 406,000 individuals and damaging more than 225,000 structures. Qatar emphasized that this deployment underscores its dedication to humanitarian solidarity, crisis response, and aiding communities grappling with natural disasters.
