The cobbled streets of Diagon Alley, the shadowy depths of the Forbidden Forest, and the towering spires of Hogwarts Castle are coming to Abu Dhabi. This ambitious expansion will increase the size of Warner Bros World Yas Island by nearly 50 percent. The three Harry Potter-themed lands were revealed as construction officially begins on the long-awaited addition to the indoor theme park, which was first announced in 2022.
Spanning more than 63,000 square metres, the expansion will become the first Harry Potter-themed attraction of its kind in the Middle East and is scheduled for completion in 2029. Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi, group chief executive of Miral, stated that it ranks as one of the largest Harry Potter expansions globally, emphasizing the meticulous level of detail and unique experiences planned for visitors.
Unlike other Harry Potter attractions worldwide, Abu Dhabi's version will be entirely enclosed and climate-controlled. According to Al Zaabi, this indoor setting allows for a deeper level of guest immersion. When Miral surveyed international customers regarding which Warner Bros intellectual property they most wanted to see brought to life, Harry Potter emerged at the top of the list.
Simon Robinson, president of global experiences and studio operations at Warner Bros Discovery, noted that the location bridges the wizarding world with a large and passionate regional fan base. The attraction arrives as a new generation prepares to discover the franchise through HBO's upcoming television adaptation, though planning for the Abu Dhabi site predates those television series announcements.
Miral's development blueprint for Yas Island extends toward 2040, encompassing upgraded rides, new live entertainment, dining, and retail options. Alongside the recently opened Kryptonite Collider DC attraction and the planned Superman-themed Up and Away flying roller coaster, the ongoing projects aim to transform Yas Island into an international family entertainment hub.
