Qatar is actively participating in the International Conference on Islamic Cultural Heritage in Uzbekistan and Its Role in Global Scientific Pathways, which takes place in Tashkent from September 7 to 9. The three-day event gathers international researchers and experts to examine Uzbekistan’s rich Islamic scientific legacy.
Ahmad bin Hassan Al-Hammadi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and Chairman of the Qatari Alliance of Civilizations Committee (QACC), is heading the Qatari delegation. The conference also features participants from various nations, including Türkiye, Italy, Jordan, Iraq, Algeria, Egypt, and Morocco.
During his address, Al-Hammadi noted that the gathering aligns with Qatar's broader civilizational diplomacy initiative under the 2023–2027 Plan for the Alliance of Civilizations. This initiative aims to foster intercultural dialogue and shine a light on Islamic cities that significantly advanced global science and culture.
Al-Hammadi highlighted that the event stems from a collaborative scientific partnership involving the QACC, Qatar University, and Tashkent University of Oriental Studies. The partnership seeks to emphasize the historical contributions of Uzbek scholars to worldwide scientific advancement.
He recalled the remarkable legacies of prominent Uzbek scholars such as Imam Al-Bukhari, Al-Khwarizmi, Al-Biruni, and Ibn Sina, whose pioneering work advanced mathematics, engineering, algebra, earth sciences, chemistry, medicine, philosophy, and Islamic studies.
This conference represents another milestone in deepening cultural relations between Qatar and Uzbekistan, following previous events like Uzbek Culture Week in Doha in February 2024 and Qatari Cultural Days in Tashkent in October 2024. Furthermore, Qatar participated in the inauguration of Uzbekistan’s Islamic Civilisation Centre.
On the sidelines of the conference, Al-Hammadi met with Ozltshkhra Ryzhensova, President of Tashkent University of Oriental Studies, to discuss expanding collaboration between the institution and the QACC. Al-Hammadi concluded by expressing his anticipation for valuable scientific recommendations emerging from the event to further promote Uzbekistan's heritage.
