Mohamed Salah Makes Debut as Trabzonspor Held to Frustrating Draw by Kasimpasa

Mohamed Salah's debut for Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig did not go entirely to plan as the Egyptian star appeared as a second-half substitute in a 1-1 draw against Kasimpasa.

Trabzonspor opened the scoring in the first half courtesy of Noah Saviolo, before Kasimpasa's Adrian Benedyczak equalised from the penalty spot after the break. Mohamed Salah, who recently moved to Trabzonspor on a free transfer following nine seasons at Liverpool, entered the match in the 58th minute immediately after the equalising goal.

Although the forward created several scoring opportunities for the visitors, Trabzonspor were unable to find a winner. “It's a sad and difficult start today. It was a game we had to be victorious in, but we couldn't succeed. Thursday is really important, we play a match in Europe, and the opponent is far better than us,” stated Trabzonspor coach Fatih Tekke.

Trabzonspor, who secured a third-place finish in the Super Lig last season and lifted the Turkish Cup, are now preparing to face Hungarian side Ferencvaros in the Europa League play-off round on Thursday. Fatih Tekke stressed that the squad must quickly regroup and elevate their performance levels.

“This is not about Trabzonspor’s current season, but about the future of the team, especially the next five weeks and the next five matches. We did not start the match well, but in the first half we were better than we had planned,” Fatih Tekke added. “The mistake that happened is unacceptable, and we have to avoid it.”

Mohamed Salah arrived at Trabzonspor to immense celebration after finishing a highly successful tenure at Liverpool, stating upon his arrival that his primary goal is to win trophies.

“The last couple of days, it's an experience I never had in my life. I just want to thank every one of you for being here today and yesterday. You showed me so much love and I never expected that reception,” Mohamed Salah previously remarked.

“I am here to win. I want to win something with this club because you guys showed me so much love and I really, really appreciate that. I want to thank the president, of course, for making it happen. I am very happy to be here, and I can't wait to see you all in the pitch again.”

Trabzonspor secured a major coup by signing the 34-year-old forward last month. Mohamed Salah also experienced a notable summer at the World Cup, helping Egypt reach the last 16.
