Dubai Humanitarian has dispatched 74 tonnes of critical supplies to assist communities in Nepal still struggling in the aftermath of last month's devastating floods. Transported on Tuesday aboard a Boeing 777-F operated by Emirates SkyCargo, the shipment includes tents, shelter materials, medicines, hygiene kits, and winter kits bound for Kathmandu.
This latest relief effort was ordered by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, marking the UAE's continued support as total deliveries reach 186 tonnes. The cargo draws from prepositioned stocks belonging to Unicef, the World Food Programme’s United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (WFP-UNHRD), and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
Mohammed Al Shaibani, Chairman of Dubai Humanitarian, highlighted the emirate's pivotal role as a global supply chain hub and praised the ongoing partnership with Emirates SkyCargo during these exceptional emergency circumstances. Badr Abbas, divisional senior vice president for Emirates SkyCargo, reaffirmed the company's dedication to utilizing its network and logistics capabilities to rush life-saving aid to disaster-stricken regions alongside Dubai Humanitarian.
The UAE has previously delivered substantial relief under a $10 million package ordered by President Sheikh Mohamed following the August 26 glacier collapse and landslide that caused catastrophic flash flooding along the border between Nepal and the Chinese region of Tibet. With the death toll exceeding 13,000 and thousands remaining missing, an Emirati search and rescue team arrived in Nepal on Friday to conduct urgent life-saving operations on the ground.
