Alexander Zverev secured his 23rd Grand Slam match win of the year on September 9, 2026, in New York, US, surpassing fellow German Boris Becker's 1989 record of 22 wins. Zverev advanced to the US Open semifinals by defeating Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp with a score of 6-2, 7-5, 6-1, setting up a clash against Karen Khachanov.

Despite a slow start at Flushing Meadows, the 29-year-old French Open champion has improved his form throughout the tournament. Reflecting on his journey, Zverev acknowledged his early struggles, noting that his ability to fight back in best-of-five-set matches has been crucial to reaching the final four.

Zverev is now the only remaining Grand Slam winner in the men's draw and has reached the semifinals across all four major tournaments this year. Although he opened the match at Arthur Ashe Stadium with an erratic serve and five double faults, Botic van de Zandschulp's forehand errors allowed the top seed to seize control.

After weathering a stronger challenge in the second set, Zverev dominated the third set, securing his third semifinal appearance in New York. He will next face Russian Karen Khachanov in a rematch of their 2021 Tokyo Olympics gold medal match.
