Red Bull's Max Verstappen dominated Saturday in Singapore by winning a chaotic sprint race and subsequently securing pole position for Sunday's Grand Prix. Despite a largely frustrating campaign, the Dutchman is now heavily favored to secure back-to-back victories following his recent triumph at the Bahrain Grand Prix, hosted in Malaysia last weekend. That breakthrough had followed a string of three consecutive podium finishes for the four-time world champion.

For Sunday's main event, Verstappen will share the front row with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, while Lewis Hamilton qualified third-fastest. Championship leader Kimi Antonelli managed only the fourth-fastest time for Mercedes. This milestone result places Verstappen on pole for his 250th F1 race, marking his first-ever pole position at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Earlier on Saturday, the 29-year-old Verstappen demonstrated his exceptional pace by winning an eventful sprint race conducted under difficult conditions. Mercedes driver Russell had been leading while the track remained wet from a prior downpour, but he drifted slightly wide at the final corner of the opening lap and lost control. His car careened across the track and collided with the barrier. Ferrari's Hamilton claimed second place after executing a brilliant start from sixth on the grid, with teammate Leclerc finishing third. A late collision between the McLarens, triggered when Lando Norris attempted an overtake on Oscar Piastri, promoted Antonelli into fourth place. This outcome, coupled with Russell's retirement, extended the Italian's championship lead to 89 points.

Rain had initially delayed the start of the inaugural sprint at Marina Bay, and because overtaking proved nearly impossible, the race's excitement was limited to collisions and a record nine retirements. Addressing reporters after securing his maiden victory at the venue, Verstappen voiced strong criticism of the layout. “I think we shouldn't host a sprint where you can't pass,” Verstappen stated. “I'm fine, I just do my thing … but it's not what I like. The overtake mode, it barely does anything here. You don't really gain a lot on the straights … we need to have a longer straight or like more of a proper hairpin to overtake.”
