Egyptian and Arab cinemas officially welcomed “Practical Magic 2” on Thursday, September 10, 2026. The highly anticipated sequel reunites superstars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as the beloved witch sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, nearly 28 years after the original film premiered in 1998. The franchise’s triumphant return comes as the first installment has built a massive cult following over the decades, generating intense excitement over the announcement and the return of Bullock and Kidman to their iconic roles.
Ahead of its theatrical release, London served as a major promotional landmark, hosting the European premiere at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman led the star-studded red carpet alongside both new and returning cast members. Joey King and Maisie Williams, who join the “Practical Magic” universe in this new chapter, were present alongside Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, who return as Aunts Frances and Jet. Danish director Susanne Bier and members of the creative team were also in attendance for the celebration.
During the event, Nicole Kidman highlighted the significance of stepping back into this magical world after nearly three decades, describing it as an extraordinary moment for both her and Bullock. Kidman reprises her role as Gillian Owens, while Sandra Bullock emphasized that the sequel works hard to preserve the original’s DNA, blending sisterhood, humor, and the ability to pivot from lighthearted moments to darker, more tragic themes. Marking her return to acting after a hiatus, Bullock also serves as a producer alongside Kidman, making the project a dual comeback for both stars.
Acclaimed Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier helms the sequel, aiming to preserve the original’s distinct tone while expanding the narrative to encompass a new generation of Owens women. The story introduces a multi-generational dynamic where the family faces a new magical curse threatening to tear them apart. The ensemble cast includes Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod, alongside Wiest and Channing. Based on the world created by author Alice Hoffman in her novel “The Book of Magic”, the screenplay was penned by Akiva Goldsman, Georgia Pritchett, and Kelly Marcel, with Warner Bros. Pictures handling worldwide distribution.
