Drivers traveling along a key section of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Road (E311) will face a lower speed limit starting September 14, according to an announcement by Abu Dhabi Mobility. The maximum speed is being dropped from 120kph to 100kph in both directions between Tawi Al Qaymah Street and Al Khayr Street. Motorists heading toward Dubai can use Baniyas Cemetery as a visual landmark for this specific zone.
Authorities urge all drivers to adjust their speeds accordingly to avoid hefty fines, which span from Dh300 to Dh3,000. Abu Dhabi Mobility also clarified that recently installed paid parking signs in the area are part of upcoming updates. Unlike Dubai and Sharjah, which provide a 20kph buffer, Abu Dhabi maintains a strict zero-tolerance speeding policy where radars trigger the moment a vehicle surpasses the limit by just 1kph.
Motorists caught speeding by more than 80kph over the limit face severe penalties, including 23 black points and a 60-day vehicle impoundment. Furthermore, reclaiming an impounded vehicle can cost up to Dh50,000 in additional fees. In a separate announcement, the Integrated Transport Centre stated that two left lanes on Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road (E11) toward Al Shahama will undergo a temporary closure starting Sunday at midnight until 5am on Monday.
