Hong Kong's captivated public has bidden farewell to ‘Ancient Egypt Unveils Its Secrets: Treasures from Egyptian Museums,’ which successfully concluded its blockbuster nine-month run at the Hong Kong Palace Museum. Drawing an impressive turnout of over 600,000 visitors between November 18, 2025, and August 31, 2026, the exhibition highlighted the enduring global fascination with the land of the Pharaohs.

Marking the grand finale of the exhibition and the commencement of the artifacts' return journey, Hisham al-Leithy, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities—representing Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy—participated in a joint press conference in Hong Kong. He was joined by museum leadership and Dr. Ahmed Hameeda, Head of the Museums Sector.

The showcase presented a comprehensive narrative of ancient Egyptian life by uniting 250 masterworks sourced from eight Egyptian museums and major archaeological sites. Key highlights included a massive 2.7-ton quartzite statue of King Tutankhamun from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, an imposing granite likeness of King Merneptah, and a brilliant gilded mummy mask loaned by the Hurghada Museum. In addition to these major artifacts, attendees viewed delicate papyrus scrolls, intricate gold jewelry, stone carvings, and preserved specimens of ancient Egyptian bread.

Discussing the triumph of the exhibition, Al-Leithy emphasized that international showcases serve as a crucial engine for cross-cultural connection and a vital platform for Egypt’s cultural tourism. With logistics, packing, and high-security transport now underway, the collection is preparing to return to Egypt, successfully concluding a collaborative effort among museum, restoration, and diplomatic teams.
