Visitors to the Giza Plateau will soon have the opportunity to experience a bird's-eye view of the ancient world’s last surviving wonder through a new tethered hot air balloon attraction. Unveiled by Egyptian tourism authorities, this high-flying entertainment option marks the first of its kind near the iconic monuments, offering sweeping panoramic vistas from an altitude of 150 meters.
Despite the excitement surrounding the project, the proposal has sparked intense debates among conservationists regarding visual pollution and ecological preservation close to world heritage sites. To address mounting public scrutiny, Tourism Minister Sherif Fathy traveled to the site on Sunday to review safety preparations prior to the launch of test runs.
Project officials maintain that the 15-minute aerial journey will combine entertainment with education by providing historical commentary to passengers as they float above the desert floor. In addressing worries about historical integrity, developers highlighted that the infrastructure was specifically designed to have zero impact on the ancient soil. Constructed entirely from modular, light-gauge components anchored above ground, the system completely avoids sub-surface excavation and concrete construction.
Positioned more than two kilometers away from both the Pyramids and the Sphinx, the vertically tethered system is designed to deliver modern thrills while safeguarding the integrity of the ancient skyline.
