Russia's Ministry of Defence announced that its forces have struck several industrial facilities across Ukraine, marking an intensification of Moscow's targeted campaign against the country's infrastructure. According to the ministry, Saturday's strikes hit the Ukrainian steelmaker Zaporizhstal in Zaporizhzhia, the Interpipe Steel complex in Dnipro, and various plants in Kryvyi Rih. Additionally, the Interfax news agency reported that two cargo vessels were struck overnight in the Black Sea port of Chornomorsk.
These developments followed a wave of Ukrainian drone attacks targeting industrial sites in the Samara region, as cited by regional Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev. The Russian Defence Ministry claimed to have downed 230 Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple regions, Crimea, and surrounding seas. In Togliatti, Mayor Ilya Sukhikh reported damage to residential buildings and one injury, while Taganrog Mayor Svetlana Kambulova noted that four commercial properties were set ablaze.
Since the February 2022 invasion, Russia has systematically targeted Ukraine's power grid, defense plants, and logistics hubs. In response, Ukraine has escalated its long-range campaign against Russian industrial infrastructure, impacting oil refineries and causing domestic fuel shortages.
Recent strikes in Kyiv have also resulted in civilian casualties. On Friday, Russian attacks on two petrol stations killed at least two people, following similar strikes on Thursday. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that 12 people, including a 12-year-old boy, were injured. Additional casualties were reported across the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv regions. Meanwhile, Ukrainian drone and missile strikes caused casualties and damage in the Kursk, Belgorod, Donetsk, and Volgograd regions.
