Egyptian TV Host Amr Adib Warns of Severe Domestic Impact as Global Oil Prices Surpass $104

Egyptian TV host Amr Adib has raised concerns regarding the potential fallout of soaring oil prices, which have climbed past US$104 per barrel, and their direct effect on fuel prices in Egypt. Speaking on his MBC Masr program “Al-Hekaya” (The Story), Adib questioned how the government plans to navigate these elevated costs after initially budgeting based on $75 per barrel.

Highlighting international trends, Adib pointed out that diesel prices in the US have climbed to six dollars per gallon. He cautioned that the world is facing a historic turning point, noting that sustained high crude prices will introduce significant new variables for Egypt's domestic market.

Adib connected the ongoing oil crisis to disruptions in the Red Sea, attributing maritime challenges in the Suez Canal to the Huthi group’s control over the Bab al-Mandab Strait. He suggested these actions are tied to regional tensions involving Iran, making short-term energy market predictions increasingly difficult for Egypt and other nations worldwide.
