Cristiano Ronaldo holds the all-time record for men's international goals at 146. The Portugal captain has recently fuelled speculation regarding his retirement plans by stating that the upcoming year will likely mark the conclusion of his illustrious playing career.

As one of the most decorated players in football history, the 41-year-old has secured major trophies representing Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and his current team Al-Nassr, following his senior debut for Sporting in 2002. Despite winning numerous accolades, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was unable to secure a World Cup title after Portugal fell short at this year’s tournament.

Reflecting on his future, Ronaldo shared his perspective in an interview published on Sunday with lifestyle magazine Vogue, stating, "This is probably my last year of football and I want to leave a spectacular legacy." Throughout a career spanning more than two decades, the forward has accumulated 976 goals for both club and country.

Looking ahead to life after football, Ronaldo noted the importance of preparing for the transition. "I have so many things to keep me busy that to tell you just one thing is hard. Because football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways, not just one," he explained. He also expressed a desire to travel more, play padel, and enjoy the rewards of 25 years marked by significant personal sacrifice.

Ronaldo is set to continue playing for Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr this season as he approaches the historic milestone of 1,000 career goals.
