Worshippers across the UAE will be urged to conserve water and to teach their children not to waste the precious resource during Friday prayers. The upcoming sermon emphasizes that water should never be taken for granted, drawing attention to the hardships of previous generations who embarked on arduous journeys in search of it.

The message will be delivered at mosques nationwide as the UAE steps up efforts to address water security challenges both at home and abroad. These efforts align with the upcoming 2026 UN Water Conference, which is co-hosted by the UAE and Senegal and scheduled to take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) from December 8 to 10.

“Every drop of water wasted without need is the misuse of a magnificent blessing and a failure to honour a trust that Allah has placed in our hands,” the sermon states. Worshippers are asked to reflect on those who once traveled through harsh deserts searching for a single drop of water or dug among rocks hoping to find even a small quantity.

Titled We Made from Water Every Living Thing, the sermon draws on Quranic verses to describe water as the foundation of life, noting its essential role in drinking, agriculture, crop growth, and the greening of the land. It also highlights the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, launched under the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed, along with its Water Pioneers Programme designed to involve young Emiratis in developing solutions to water challenges.

People are encouraged to demonstrate gratitude for water through mindful consumption and by following the example of the Prophet Mohammed, who practiced strict moderation by performing ablution with approximately half a liter of water. Families are urged to make responsible water use a central focus of daily life and to lead by example for younger generations, linking religious principles of avoiding waste with the UAE's broader national strategy to combat water scarcity.
