Law enforcement authorities in the UAE and Sweden have successfully arrested the suspected leader of an international money laundering network in a coordinated cross-border operation. The Swedish fugitive, who was the target of an Interpol Red Notice after fleeing Sweden, was located and detained by UAE security forces as part of a sweep that also resulted in the arrest of six other suspected gang members in Sweden.

According to investigators, the criminal network processed approximately 70 million Swedish krona, equivalent to $7.1 million, over a 10-month period. The syndicate handled illicit cash proceeds and redirected funds to various criminal entities, utilizing cryptocurrencies to transfer and conceal the true value of the money. Digital evidence analysis and the tracing of these cryptocurrency transactions ultimately revealed financial connections to wider criminal enterprises, including contract killings and organized crime.

The successful operation stemmed from direct security coordination and intelligence sharing between the UAE Ministry of Interior and the Swedish Police Authority. Brig Abdulaziz Al Ahmad, director general of the Federal Criminal Police at the Ministry of Interior, emphasized the UAE's dedication to fighting transnational crime and tracking down fugitives. Meanwhile, Anders Wiberg, police commissioner and head of the international division of the Swedish Police Authority, commended the partnership and expressed appreciation for the vital support provided by UAE authorities.
