Tickets for Guggenheim Abu Dhabi are officially on sale, priced at Dh70, leading up to the museum's grand opening on December 11. Visitors can now plan their inaugural trip to the Frank Gehry-designed masterpiece on Saadiyat Island, which stands as the largest facility within the Guggenheim network.

The upcoming institution joins a prestigious lineup in the Saadiyat Cultural District, including Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, and teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi. Developed alongside the Solomon R Guggenheim Foundation, it complements the foundation's established sites in New York, Venice, and Bilbao.

Ticket Pricing and Concessions

Standard adult admission is set at Dh70, while entry remains completely free for visitors under the age of 18. Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Additionally, free entry is granted to senior Emiratis, UAE residents aged 60 and above, and people of determination, who can also obtain a complimentary companion ticket at checkout. University students in the UAE enjoy free admission upon presenting valid student ID and collecting their tickets directly from the ticketing desk on the day of their visit.

Discounted admission applies to several other groups. UAE-employed educators, military personnel, and Homat Al Watan members qualify for tickets at Dh50, while Fazaa and Esaad cardholders pay Dh50. Eligibility proof is required for all discounted tiers at the ticketing desk.

Exhibitions and Collections

Guggenheim Abu Dhabi has curated its collection since 2009, centering primarily on art from the 1960s onward. Galleries will feature painting, sculpture, photography, installations, moving images, and new media exploring abstraction, popular culture, land, language, and storytelling.

Confirmed artists include Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Speaking to The National in November, Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, noted that these works will be presented alongside creations from less-internationally recognized artists hailing from the Arab world, Africa, and Asia.

Al Mubarak also outlined a broader community program, describing the venue as a civic space designed to unite people through music, food, dance, and contemporary art.

Architecture and Scale

The Frank Gehry-designed building spans an impressive 80,000 square metres, encompassing 11,600 square metres of indoor gallery space and 23,000 square metres of outdoor exhibition zones. By comparison, the 1992 renovation of the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum in New York offered roughly 4,740 square metres of new and renovated gallery space, making the Abu Dhabi location's indoor galleries more than twice that size.

The structural layout connects 30 galleries through a central atrium, complemented by 10 sculptural cones that reach heights up to 88 metres. Nine of these cones feature stainless steel mesh cladding, while one is finished in onyx and glass, offering vital shade and natural ventilation. Beyond its galleries, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will champion commissions, research, and a multilingual visitor program.
