Rescuers work to excavate rubble in order to retrieve bodies from a collapsed building located in the Tal al-Hawa area of Gaza City on September 16, 2026, according to AFP. A recent Israeli strike targeting a motorcycle has resulted in the death of one Palestinian and left multiple others injured, including a child currently in critical condition, as reported by the Palestinian Wafa news agency.

The air strike hit the vehicle in the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood, situated west of Gaza City, on Friday. Continuous Israeli strikes across the besieged enclave have claimed the lives of at least 1,381 individuals since the ceasefire was declared in October 2025. Overall, military actions by Israel have resulted in at least 73,795 deaths and 174,869 injuries since the conflict began in October 2023.

Additionally on Friday, the Israeli army opened fire within the Nuseirat and al-Bureij refugee camps located in the central Gaza Strip, Wafa reported. These attacks, directed at tents housing displaced people, have caused numerous injuries. Earlier in the week, a "double-tap" air strike by Israel killed a paramedic alongside a 15-year-old schoolboy in Gaza City, with Israeli forces asserting they were targeting Hamas operatives.

UNICEF reported last month that an average of one child is killed daily by Israel. Families remain confined to roughly a third of the enclave, forced to shelter among ruined buildings, rubble, and uncleared waste, the agency noted. A Palestinian woman was seen carrying a girl past a blood stain on the ground following an Israeli drone strike on a cafe in the al-Bureij camp on September 16, 2026, as documented in an AFP file photo.

On Wednesday, a previously damaged building collapsed in Gaza City, causing the deaths of at least 21 people, among them 12 children. The Palestinian Civil Defence agency in Gaza faced severe challenges in recovering bodies from beneath the rubble due to strict Israeli restrictions on heavy equipment.

Furthermore, the Health Ministry issued a warning on Wednesday stating that the health system in Gaza is on the verge of a "total collapse" as Israel continues to restrict the entry of vital medical aid and fuel into the enclave.
