Gyms, ice baths, wellness kitchens, red light therapy and virtual training have driven a surge in the popularity of at-home wellness in recent years, with the sauna now emerging as the latest addition to the domestic realm. Once a luxury status symbol requiring specialised ventilation and careful moisture management, the introduction of the infrared sauna means small, wood-lined rooms can now be delivered and installed even in compact spaces. As health attitudes evolve alongside modern research and social media trends, combined with the post-pandemic preference for home-based activities, the demand for non-invasive, daily wellness solutions is rising.

“I think it’s a mix of the science finally catching up to what the Finnish population has known for centuries, and the wellness world's biggest voices shouting about it,” says Nick Blair, Managing Director of Kula Recovery. “The other big driver is that people can see it working. With Whoop and Oura, people are watching their own data. We hear this constantly from our customers: they'll do a sauna session before bed and wake up to a noticeably higher deep sleep or REM score on their ring or strap. It's turning a sauna into a thing people build their whole evening around.”

There are three main at-home sauna categories to consider: traditional Finnish-style saunas, infrared saunas and steam saunas. “For at-home use in the UAE, we find traditional Finnish-style cabins work best for most households, in either an indoor or an outdoor format,” says Nick Blair. “Infrared saunas tend to suit private gyms and villa clients who want a bespoke setup, typically as part of a larger wellness room rather than a standalone unit. For a lower-commitment entry point, a compact personal steam sauna is a popular first step before committing to a full cabin.”

Alongside space, buyers must weigh factors like cost, convenience, delivery access, electrical requirements, positioning, ventilation and the surrounding environment. Joe Hanney, co-founder of Recovery On Demand, notes that clients should evaluate how often they realistically plan to use a sauna, which can influence whether buying or renting is the best choice. Renting serves as a practical option for those unsure how a sauna will integrate into their routine before making a permanent purchase.

Dr Priyanka Porwal, a specialist in internal medicine at Aster Clinic, explains that sauna bathing acts as passive heat therapy, raising the heart rate, dilating blood vessels and increasing blood flow to gently challenge the cardiovascular system. Regular sessions are linked to improved vascular function, reduced arterial stiffness, modest blood pressure reductions, and benefits for metabolism, respiration, sleep and relaxation. However, individuals with low blood pressure or existing medical conditions should consult a doctor first.

Mark Boyes, founder of Sigma Clinic, emphasizes that session frequency depends on individual health, temperature, heat tolerance and session length. He recommends a short 10 to 20-minute session a few times a week for healthy adults, alongside proper hydration, especially in hot climates like the UAE.

Financial investments in preventive health are also growing. A 2025 McKinsey report, Future of Wellness, valued the US wellness economy at $480 billion, while a 2025 Global Wellness Institute study valued Dubai’s at-home wellness and residential real estate market at around $548 billion in 2024. Installed infrared saunas from Kula Recovery range from Dh20,000 to Dh30,000, while off-the-shelf traditional cabins start at Dh22,500 for outdoor models and Dh24,500 for indoor versions, including delivery and installation in the UAE. Personal steam saunas start at Dh799, and Recovery On Demand offers infrared sauna rentals at Dh3,900 a month or Dh7,500 for three months, excluding VAT.
