Mourners gather in prayer near the body of Palestinian girl Amal al-Mughair, 8, who tragically lost her life in an Israeli strike on her tent in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, on September 16, 2026. Ongoing Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip have left at least three Palestinians dead, including a child and the son of a Health Ministry official, alongside several others injured.

According to ambulance and emergency services speaking to Al Jazeera, one Palestinian lost their life on Saturday during an Israeli strike in the Shujayea neighbourhood, located east of Gaza City. Meanwhile, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah announced that a young girl succumbed earlier on Saturday to injuries inflicted by Israeli gunfire north of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. The same medical facility reported that a woman sustained serious injuries from gunfire east of the Maghazi refugee camp, also situated in central Gaza.

Medical sources further informed Al Jazeera that a young Palestinian was killed and multiple others injured during an Israeli air attack west of the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza. Subsequently, Gaza’s Ministry of Health released a statement confirming that Basir al-Bursh—the eldest son of its director general, Munir al-Bursh—was killed during the attack in the az-Zahra neighbourhood, west of the Jabalia refugee camp. The ministry's leadership and staff expressed their deepest condolences and sympathies to Dr Muneer Abdullah al-Bursh following the martyrdom of his son.

Since the announcement of a United States-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in October 2025, renewed Israeli attacks on the besieged enclave have claimed the lives of at least 1,381 people. Since the broader conflict began in October 2023, Israeli military actions have resulted in the deaths of at least 73,795 Palestinians and left 174,869 wounded. Last month, UNICEF reported that an average of one child continues to be killed daily in Gaza, where displaced Palestinian families remain confined to roughly a third of the enclave amidst destroyed buildings, rubble, and uncleared waste.
