Israel's Sayed Abu Farhi received a red card following a controversial goal celebration during his team's 3-1 Nations League defeat against Austria on Thursday.

The 20-year-old Colorado Rapids striker had initially equalized before performing the celebration that resulted in a second yellow card. During the incident, Sayed Abu Farhi approached the corner flag, removed it from the turf, dropped to one knee, and aimed it like a rifle to simulate firing shots.

According to football regulations, players can face disciplinary bookings for goal celebrations deemed provocative, derisory, or inflammatory, leading to his dismissal.

This occurrence unfolds amid mounting pressure on the Irish national team regarding potential boycotts of their upcoming fixtures against Israel. Ireland's head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson expressed discomfort regarding the matches, stating his team would be competing against genocide. In response, the Israeli FA condemned his remarks, citing ignorance, hypocrisy, and stupidity.

The scheduled home and away fixtures involving Ireland are set to take place at neutral venues in Hungary and Serbia.

Statistics indicate that more than 74,000 Palestinians, which includes over 20,000 children, have reportedly been killed by Israeli forces following the military response initiated after the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023.
