Queen Rania of Jordan has shared the first photographs of her newborn granddaughters, just days after her daughter Princess Iman welcomed twin girls with her husband Jameel Alexander Thermiotis.

The images, posted on social media, feature Queen Rania and King Abdullah II cradling the newborns, who have been named Talia and Rania. “Healthy, happy and finally here. We’ve been waiting so long to meet you, Talia and Rania,” Queen Rania wrote, adding congratulations to Princess Iman, Jameel Alexander Thermiotis, and big sister Amina.

Princess Iman and Jameel Alexander Thermiotis welcomed the twins on Friday, with the Royal Hashemite Court announcing their arrival. The couple are already parents to their daughter Amina.

In a joint statement, the parents said, “Praise be to Allah, the bestower of the most beautiful gifts. The most merciful has honoured us with the arrival of our precious twin daughters: Talia and Rania.”

The newborns' names carry traditional Arabic meanings. Talia is associated with morning or gentle dew, while Rania relates to gazing intently and holds a personal connection as one twin shares the name with Queen Rania.

Princess Iman, the eldest daughter of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania, married Jameel Alexander Thermiotis in March 2023 at Beit Al Urdun Palace in Amman.
