Emir of Qatar Calls Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid to Offer Condolences Over Passing of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, accepted condolences regarding the passing of his brother, Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid, during a telephone conversation on Saturday with Sheikh Tamim, Emir of Qatar. According to state news agency Wam, Sheikh Tamim expressed his deep sympathies and prayed that the Dubai Ruler and his family find patience and comfort. Sheikh Mohammed expressed his gratitude to the Emir of Qatar for the message of solidarity, which joined numerous tributes from leaders across the Gulf region and internationally.

Previously on Thursday, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman conveyed similar condolences during a phone call with Sheikh Mohammed. Following the passing of Sheikh Ahmed, who was widely lauded for decades of service and contributions to the emirate, ten days of mourning were proclaimed in Dubai on Monday. On Tuesday, Sheikh Mohammed led the funeral prayer for his brother at Zabeel Grand Mosque, joined by his sons, Sheikh Hamdn, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Sheikh Maktoum, Minister of Finance.

In a continuing tribute, large numbers of volunteers assembled on Saturday at Dubai World Trade Centre to assist in packing more than 10 million meals for Gazans through a significant humanitarian initiative dedicated to Sheikh Ahmed. Entitled the Ahmed bin Rashid Humanitarian Bridge, the campaign marks the newest phase of the UAE's ongoing commitment to providing essential aid to Palestinians affected by the extended conflict. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group, participated in the gathering alongside high-ranking officials.

“Throughout his life, the late Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid was a symbol of generosity, humility and devotion to Dubai and the UAE,” he stated. Mohammed Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Secretary General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiatives, noted that the gathering demonstrated the enduring principles of the Emirates. “Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid was a key figure in the UAE's national development from the very beginning, known for his distinguished role, recognised contributions and significant social impact,” Mr Al Gergawi remarked.
