India and Pakistan secured their places in the semi-finals of the 2026 Asian Games after persistent rain forced the washout of their men's T20 matches in Nisshin on Monday. At the Korogi Sports Park, Pakistan's quarter-final against Hong Kong and India's last-eight clash against Afghanistan were both abandoned without a single ball being bowled.

Severe weather conditions have continuously disrupted the Aichi-Nagoya Games in Japan. Although India's women's team previously triumphed by defending their T20 gold medal, the men's tournament has suffered heavily from the elements, resulting in four consecutive match abandonments.

Tournament playing conditions dictate that higher-ranked teams automatically advance during a washout. With dismal weather forecasts persisting for Tuesday—featuring upcoming matches between Sri Lanka and Nepal, and Bangladesh against Malaysia—Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are poised to progress on superior ICC T20 rankings if rain continues.

Further weather threats loom as reports indicate Typhoon Surigae is approaching Japan, potentially bringing heavy rain and strong winds to Aichi and central Japan for the remainder of the Aichi-Nagoya Games. If all remaining matches are washed out, top-ranked India stands to defend their gold medal, echoing a similar outcome at the previous Hangzhou Asian Games where India secured gold and Afghanistan took silver following a rained-out title match.

In a separate development at the Games, Kazakh race walker Yasmina Toxanbayeva lost her women's marathon gold medal following a disqualification for wearing unsanctioned shoes. Having crossed the finish line Sunday nearly four minutes ahead of China's runner-up Danzengquzong, her provisional victory was overturned after officials noted she wore footwear not listed on the approved World Athletics platform. A technical official confirmed that while the cancellation was enforced, Toxanbayeva has exercised her right to appeal the decision to the jury.
