Yoane Wissa played a pivotal role for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) by scoring the opening goal and setting up the second in a 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe during a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Harare.
The Newcastle United striker capitalized on an error by goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze in the 30th minute to poke home the game's first goal. Just before halftime, a pass from Yoane Wissa allowed Samuel Moutoussamy to double the lead for the DRC.
Although Zimbabwe struggled in the first half against a higher-ranked opponent, they fought back after the break, resulting in a 93rd-minute consolation goal by Marshall Munetsi. With this win, the DRC leads Group E with six points, while Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea hold three points each.
In other qualifying matches, Equatorial Guinea secured a 1-0 victory against Sierra Leone thanks to a first-minute goal from Loren Zuniga in Yaounde. Meanwhile, Burkina Faso defeated the Central African Republic 1-0 in Casablanca with a second-half winner from Aboubacar Camara.
Tunisia faced another setback at home, drawing 2-2 with Botswana in Rades. Despite two goals from Hazem Mastouri for Tunisia, Botswana fought back, equalizing on the hour mark through a delicate lob by substitute Lebogang Ditsele, leaving Botswana at the top of Group H on goal difference.
