Etihad Rail has outlined ambitious plans to attract 10 million passengers annually as its network expansion accelerates with the upcoming launch of its first train station in Dubai. Ameera Alkhlaifi, director of strategy and performance at Etihad Rail, revealed the vision after reporting that 150,000 people have already traveled on the Abu Dhabi-Fujairah route during its first three months of operation.

Speaking at a media event at Dubai's new Al Yalayis Station—which opens to passengers on Wednesday—Ms Alkhlaifi noted that the early numbers demonstrate significant demand for train travel across the Emirates. Additional expansion is underway, with Sharjah's Al Dhaid station scheduled to open on September 30, bringing the total to ten operational stations by March 30 under the first phase of the network.

To ensure seamless connectivity, the Dubai station features a direct link to Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station via a pedestrian bridge. Passengers will also have access to buses, taxis, rental cars, and parking facilities, supporting integrated travel across the UAE.

Beyond convenience, the passenger rail network is positioned as a sustainable transportation alternative designed to support the UAE's net-zero vision by reducing transport emissions. With early ridership spanning hospital visits, family trips, and work commutes, Etihad Rail plans to continue monitoring usage as the network expands further in the coming months.
