Red Bull's Dutch driver Max Verstappen lifted his trophy during the podium ceremony at the Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix in Sepang, Malaysia. Max Verstappen finally claimed his first victory of the season amidst chaotic scenes at the Bahrain Grand Prix, which started an hour and 40 minutes late due to heavy rainfall at the Sepang International Circuit.

Verstappen regained the lead following an early safety car period, ultimately finishing ahead of the Mercedes driven by championship leader Kimi Antonelli and the Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton. However, it was heartbreak for George Russell, who was forced to retire from third place in the second Mercedes with just five laps remaining after his power unit appeared to fail under a late safety car.

Verstappen, who had secured pole position, gave Red Bull a massive boost despite a shaky start that saw him lose the lead prior to the first turn. Following an eventual standing start, Verstappen struggled off the line on intermediate tyres in the wet early conditions, allowing the Mercedes duo of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell to breeze past him.

The race dynamic shifted on lap nine when a safety car was deployed after Valtteri Bottas spun into the gravel. Capitalizing on the rapidly drying track, the majority of the field pitted for new slick tyres. When racing resumed, Verstappen overtook Kimi Antonelli and George Russell to seize a lead he would maintain until the checkered flag, swiftly building a comfortable gap.

Lewis Hamilton, who started on the front row using dry tyres, initially tumbled down the standings in the wet weather. Nevertheless, the seven-time world champion relied on his vast experience to carve his way back through the pack, securing a brilliant podium finish as the track surface dried. His teammate Charles Leclerc crossed the line in fourth, while Red Bull's Isack Hadjar finished fifth.

This edition of the Bahrain Grand Prix was relocated to Malaysia due to regional conflicts in the Middle East that have disrupted the international sports calendar amid the US-Israeli war on Iran. Formula One will now head to nearby Singapore for a night race and sprint event next weekend.
