Star Midfielder Rodri Completes £65m Dream Transfer to Barcelona from Manchester City

Spain's World Cup-winning captain Rodri has finalized his "dream" transfer to Barcelona. The Catalan giants agreed to pay Manchester City a fee of £65m plus add-ons, with the 30-year-old midfielder putting pen to paper on a four-year contract with the La Liga champions.

Rodri, who secured the Golden Ball as the tournament's standout player at this summer's global finals in North America, successfully completed his medical tests on Tuesday before officially signing his contract at the Camp Nou.

Reflecting on the move, Rodri shared his enthusiasm with journalists at the airport on Monday night: "I'm very happy to have arrived. The last few days have been intense, but I'm glad everything has been sorted out. Of course, playing for FC Barcelona is a dream." He added, "I can't wait to be with my teammates, many of whom I already know from the national team. It's time to get to work and give my very best." When asked about his ambitions to win the Uefa Champions League, he responded, "The Champions League and everything else that comes our way."

Rodri departs Manchester City after capturing 12 major honors during his seven seasons at the club, including four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three League Cups, and the Champions League in the 2022/23 campaign. Notably, he scored the decisive goal in the 2023 final against Inter Milan to crown City European champions for the first time. The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner made 298 appearances for City following his 2019 transfer from Atletico Madrid. Although previously linked with a move to Real Madrid, Barcelona intensified their efforts in recent days to secure the signature.

Addressing concerns regarding his fitness after recent minor back surgery, Rodri insisted he is prepared for action. "I'm ready to go," he stated. "The surgery everyone was talking about was no big deal - it was just an outpatient procedure."

In an emotional farewell message to supporters, Rodri expressed deep gratitude: "I knew I came into a top team but I never thought we could be able to create the legacy we made: winning trophies, fans around the world, love and respect... It's time to say goodbye, thanks to the club, the fans, the staff and my teammates. This journey couldn't be the same without you, my heart will always be Blue." At Barcelona, he aims to help the club secure a third consecutive La Liga title.
