Israeli attacks have resulted in the death or injury of a Palestinian in Gaza every 90 minutes on average since the ceasefire was announced in October last year, according to the aid group Islamic Relief.

Islamic Relief, a United Kingdom-based charity, reported on Thursday that at least 1,454 Palestinians were killed and more than 5,000 wounded over the course of the year. Among the dead were at least 320 children, averaging close to one child killed per day.

Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that 1,471 Palestinians have been killed and 5,189 wounded since the ceasefire, which includes four people killed and 28 wounded over the past 24 hours. The ministry added that Israel has killed at least 74,254 people since October 2023.

On Thursday, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that Israeli forces killed a Palestinian southeast of Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, while an Israeli air strike targeting a house in central Khan Younis left several people wounded. Meanwhile, in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Red Crescent stated that a 13-year-old boy was shot in the foot during an Israeli raid on Yamoun, located west of Jenin.

Islamic Relief stated that Israel has utilized the so-called Yellow Line, which designates the area under Israeli military control, to push Palestinians out of 65 percent of Gaza. This has forced the nearly 2.1 million residents of the territory to crowd into the remaining 35 percent.

An anonymous Islamic Relief aid worker in Gaza, whose identity was withheld for safety reasons, stated in the report: “There is no ceasefire in reality. They target displacement camps and crowded areas, so there is still a lot of fear.”

The aid group also noted that Israel continues to block the entry of shelter materials, fuel, and medical supplies. Approximately 82 percent of Gaza’s structures have been damaged or destroyed, more than half of the health services have shut down, and over 20,000 severely ill patients are currently denied permission to leave the territory for medical treatment.

In response to these conditions, the charity urged world leaders to increase pressure in order to protect civilians and uphold international law. “A ceasefire in name only cannot be an excuse for international inaction,” the group declared.
