Everton’s owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), have announced they are open to selling a controlling stake in the club as part of ongoing efforts to attract fresh investment, the Premier League club confirmed on Friday.

This announcement comes less than two years after the US-based group acquired Everton from former owner Farhad Moshiri in December 2024, stepping in while the club was grappling with severe financial difficulties and a prolonged period of instability.

Since that acquisition, TFG has overseen Everton’s historic move into the Hill Dickinson Stadium and worked diligently to improve the club’s overall financial position. In an official statement, the owners noted: “When TFG became custodians of Everton, the club faced significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch.”

The statement explained that the immediate priority had been to provide the stability, investment, and support necessary to secure the club’s future, which included bringing the new stadium to completion. “With that foundation now safely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton.”

TFG emphasized that it would only entertain proposals from parties believed capable of building upon the progress achieved since the initial takeover. The group also pledged to continue supporting Everton both on and off the pitch throughout the entire evaluation process.

TFG’s strategic decision follows a summer transfer window that, according to British media reports, drew criticism from supporters. During the window, Everton generated significant income through player sales but brought in only limited additions to their squad before the deadline.

TFG, which also owns Italian club AS Roma and French side AS Cannes, has retained investment bank Moelis & Company to advise on the sale process. Both the group and Everton stated that they would make no further comments while the process remains under way.
