Cristiano Ronaldo made a triumphant return to club action on Friday, scoring the opening goal in Al-Nassr's 3-0 victory over Diriyah in the Saudi Pro League, though questions surrounding his international future with Portugal persist.

The win moves the defending champions level on points with league leaders Al-Qadsiah, trailing only on goal difference after eight rounds of matches. The 41-year-old forward's return to domestic football follows a turbulent international break during which he departed the Portugal squad, a national team for which he has netted 146 goals across 234 appearances.

In a detailed statement released on Tuesday, Ronaldo asserted that Portugal coach Jorge Jesus failed to keep his promise regarding playing time in the Nations League. Interestingly, Jesus also managed Ronaldo when Al-Nassr claimed the Saudi Arabia title in May.

Midway through the first half on Friday, Ronaldo broke the deadlock. After Waleed Abdullah blocked a long-range effort from Kingsley Coman, Ronaldo reacted quickest to turn in the rebound from close range, marking the 980th goal of his professional career.

Al-Nassr, currently managed by former Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou, doubled their advantage just before halftime through Samu Costa. Coman then put the result beyond doubt by scoring Al-Nassr's third goal with 13 minutes remaining on the clock.

Meanwhile, Al-Qadsiah secured a dominant 5-0 victory over Al-Kholood earlier in the day, featuring goals from Dutch international Tijjani Reijnders, Italy's Mateo Retegui, and Mexico's Julian Quinones.
