Fighting continues to intensify in Yemen as internationally recognised government forces push a military offensive against the Iran-backed Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah, who control parts of the country. Speaking at the United Nations Security Council, UN Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg warned that the nation has effectively slid back into full-scale war.

Government forces are primarily targeting the vital Bab al-Mandeb strait at the entrance to the Red Sea, which has become a crucial trading chokepoint. According to the United Nations, at least 46 civilians have been killed and over 130 others injured since August, while the UN's migration agency (IOM) reports that more than 200,000 people have been displaced.

The Yemeni government recently launched the 'Dawn of Yemen' operation to retake Houthi-held territory, including the capital Sanaa. Meanwhile, intense battles continue around the strategic southern cities of Mocha and Dubhab, threatening to plunge the region into a deeper humanitarian and security crisis.
