UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Directs $10 Million in Urgent Aid for Colombia Earthquake Recovery

The UAE is providing $10 million worth of aid to assist with relief efforts in Colombia following a devastating earthquake that claimed the lives of 265 people.

The assistance is being allocated under the direct orders of President Sheikh Mohamed as part of the nation's ongoing commitment to bolstering international relief operations, according to a report by the state news agency Wam on Thursday evening.

Teams from the UAE are actively working to deliver critical relief supplies, encompassing medical essentials, food provisions, and shelter materials, stated Dr Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency.

The aid agency is focused on accelerating the delivery of resources to match on-the-ground requirements, helping to ease the hardship of those impacted while backing early recovery and the rapid restoration of stability in the affected regions, he noted.

The financial allocation highlights the UAE's dedication to assisting populations struck by humanitarian crises and making sure that support reaches vulnerable groups and communities promptly, Wam reported.

The South American country was struck on Monday by a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake near the town of San Jose del Palmar in Choco province, data from the US Geological Survey shows.

Additionally on Thursday, President Sheikh Mohamed held a telephone conversation with Colombia's newly inaugurated President, Abelardo de la Espriella, who took the oath of office last week.

During the call, President Sheikh Mohamed conveyed his heartfelt condolences regarding the earthquake victims in Colombia and wished a rapid recovery to all those injured, Wam reported.

He further extended his sympathies to the families of the victims and reiterated the UAE's steadfast solidarity with both the government and people of Colombia.

In response, Mr de la Espriella shared his appreciation for President Sheikh Mohamed and the UAE's swift response to the unfolding humanitarian crisis.
