Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly emphasized on Sunday that food and water security remain critical priorities for Egypt, defining them as essential pillars for fulfilling citizens' basic needs and securing sustainable development.
Speaking during a preparation meeting for the upcoming Egypt Forum 2026, scheduled from October 19 to 24, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly highlighted a dedicated session titled “Food and Water Security: Today’s Challenges and Future Safeguards.” The session will evaluate current challenges alongside government initiatives aimed at boosting self-sufficiency, reducing the import gap, and optimizing available resources.
The meeting was held in alignment with directives from President Abdel al-Sisi and included key officials such as Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hany Sewilam, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk, and Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development Authority Secretary-General Khaled Salah.
Discussions centered on pressing pressures affecting food and water security, including population growth, climate change, limited water resources, global market fluctuations, and international supply chain disruptions. State institutions, led by the Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development Authority and relevant ministries, were recognized for their efforts in agricultural expansion, securing strategic crops, and improving supply chain infrastructure.
Participants also underscored the necessity of maintaining transparency during the forum by addressing public questions with documented facts and figures, encouraging citizens to engage as active partners in Egypt's national development.
