Qatar's Minister of State for Energy Affairs and QatarEnergy President and CEO Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi called for a new world energy order that keeps energy above politics and prevents it from becoming a target of conflict. Speaking at the 17th International Energy Forum (IEF) Ministerial Meeting in Riyadh on Sunday, he emphasized that energy security must unite rather than divide nations.
On the sidelines of the event, Qatar and Saudi Arabia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a framework for joint cooperation across the energy industry. The agreement was signed by Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi for Qatar and Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud for the kingdom.
The newly signed MoU encompasses oil and gas, refining, petrochemicals, electricity, clean hydrogen, renewable energy, and energy efficiency. It also addresses emission reduction technologies, carbon capture, and sustainability frameworks, with implementation set to begin following the completion of legal procedures in both countries.
During his address, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi highlighted that ongoing regional conflicts have severely impacted global hydrocarbon supplies and damaged critical energy infrastructure, resulting in market volatility. He stressed the shared responsibility to protect energy infrastructure and safeguard the free flow of energy globally.
