The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, addressed the Shura Council, stating that the region has endured "exceptional events" during a period of significant instability, largely influenced by the United States-Israeli war on Iran. Speaking from Doha on Tuesday, Sheikh Tamim emphasized that Qatar's response to these challenges has demonstrated its resilience.

"Our country and the region have faced exceptional events that have once again proven the cohesion of state institutions," the Emir remarked. Qatar has been significantly impacted by the ongoing war, which commenced on February 28 and has led to a global energy crisis. The Gulf state has experienced direct attacks from Iran on multiple occasions. Notably, in March, Tehran targeted Qatar’s Ras Laffan gas facility, recognized as the world's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) production site.

Sheikh Tamim attributed Qatar's ability to withstand the repercussions of regional instability to pre-war policies. He reiterated Doha's commitment to resolving conflicts through peaceful means and dialogue. However, the Emir underscored that the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) remains a non-negotiable priority.

"The security of Gulf Cooperation Council states and the preservation of their sovereignty are matters that cannot be compromised on," he asserted. The war involving the United States and Iran has severely disrupted international supply routes, particularly impacting the Strait of Hormuz, which Tehran has effectively controlled since the conflict began.

In light of these disruptions, Sheikh Tamim called for intensified efforts to ensure the safety of maritime routes. "Efforts must be doubled to secure navigation in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz and to protect energy facilities and civilian infrastructure," he stated.
