Jose Mourinho has expressed confidence that Real Madrid will thrive without Rodri, despite confirming that the club made a very strong offer to secure the Spain captain. Rodri officially completed his transfer to arch-rivals Barcelona from Manchester City on Tuesday.

Speaking on the television show El Chiringuito late Tuesday, Mourinho revealed that he spoke twice with Rodri while Real Madrid was evaluating a move for the World Cup’s best player, but noted that the midfielder appeared hesitant about his future.

"The club contacted him, but he had some doubts," Mourinho said. "What I think happened is that his doubts have created doubts for me. He’s an extraordinary player and was very correct with us. But Real Madrid is of such a stature that it can’t have players who think twice about being with the club."

Mourinho, who recently returned to Real Madrid for a second stint, downplayed the significance of missing out on the midfielder. "I don’t need Rodri. We have solutions, quality players," he stated, adding that Barcelona did not necessarily gain an upper hand by completing the transfer. "Victories are won on the field; they are won with titles."

Following consecutive seasons without a major trophy, Real Madrid has bolstered its squad with the additions of Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Bernardo Silva, and Yan Diomande. Mourinho indicated that the club's transfer business is likely finished for now, with Real Madrid scheduled to open its La Liga campaign against Espanyol on Saturday.
