Bradley Barcola, the Liverpool forward, silenced his critics and ended his goal drought with a spectacular hat-trick in a thrilling 6-3 Champions League victory against LASK on Wednesday. Barcola, who faced scrutiny for some lackluster performances since his significant 123 million pounds ($161m) transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in August, finally began to justify his hefty price tag by scoring his first goals for Liverpool in his seventh appearance.

Barcola found the net twice before halftime at the Raiffeisen Arena. This performance followed Ronald Araujo's opening goal for Liverpool in the first half, marking his maiden goal for the club. After the break, Jeremie Frimpong extended Liverpool's lead against the Austrian champions before Barcola completed his treble. Lewis Koumas added Liverpool's sixth goal with his first Champions League strike, ensuring Liverpool maintained their perfect record in this season's tournament, following their initial win against Atletico Madrid.

This result provided a much-needed boost for manager Andoni Iraola, whose team had recently suffered their first defeat in eight games when Premier League leaders Manchester City secured a 3-0 victory at Anfield on Sunday. Iraola had expressed "100 percent" trust in both Barcola and Florian Wirtz earlier in the week, with Wirtz also experiencing a challenging period since his move from Bayer Leverkusen last year. The absence of key players like Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo, and Dominik Szoboszlai, who missed the trip to Austria due to injuries, further increased the pressure on Wirtz and Barcola to lead the Liverpool attack. The duo responded positively, delivering a display that showcased their considerable talents and repaid Iraola's confidence.

Iraola will now expect consistent intensity and quality from them. The match in Linz was the second of six games in 18 days for Liverpool, prompting Iraola to implement changes to prevent player burnout. Key players such as captain Virgil van Dijk, Milos Kerkez, Alexis Mac Allister, and Victor Munoz were rested, with Frimpong, Kostas Tsimikas, Trey Nyoni, and Rio Ngumoha coming into the lineup.

Following some disjointed early performances under Iraola's management, this match offered a glimpse of the team's potential. However, defensive frailties remain a concern for the former Bournemouth boss.

Liverpool took the lead in the 22nd minute when Araujo rose highest to powerfully head home a corner from Tsimikas, beating LASK goalkeeper Lukas Jungwirth. Barcola scored just 96 seconds later, capitalizing on a run into the LASK area by Ngumoha and finishing clinically past Jungwirth. Liverpool extended their dominance, with Barcola scoring his second goal in the 37th minute after a well-executed combination with Wirtz, who provided a precise return pass. Frimpong, who has also faced criticism since his arrival last year, added Liverpool's fourth goal in the 51st minute with a header from a Tsimikas cross.

Robert Ljubicic pulled one back for LASK in the 63rd minute with a composed finish from a pass by Yvan Dibango. However, Barcola completed his hat-trick in the 66th minute, converting a pass from Frimpong. Koumas then sealed Liverpool's sixth goal in the 72nd minute with a powerful strike.

Despite the introduction of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, Liverpool conceded two late goals. Florian Flecker scored with a diving header in the 74th minute, capitalizing on slack defending, and added another close-range finish in the 77th minute, but these did not overshadow Barcola's memorable performance.
