Pedro Neto netted twice to lead Chelsea to a 2-0 Premier League victory over Everton on Saturday. However, the match was significantly overshadowed by a serious injury sustained by goalkeeper Emi Martinez.

The first half concluded goalless, marked by five yellow cards and several intense exchanges. Shortly after the restart, Chelsea took the lead when an unmarked Neto found the back of the net less than a minute into the second half.

Play was halted for over 10 minutes when Chelsea's goalkeeper, Emi Martinez, was stretchered off the field following a collision of heads with Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite. Chelsea's 21-year-old keeper Mike Penders made his Premier League debut, replacing Martinez.

Chelsea extended their lead in the 90th minute. Neto capitalized on a loose ball after Jordan Henderson's free kick was blocked by the defensive wall, calmly slotting it into the bottom corner. This sealed Everton's first defeat of the season.

The 33-year-old Argentinian goalkeeper, a 2022 World Cup winner, had joined the Blues on a three-year deal in August after transferring from Aston Villa.

Following the match, Chelsea goalscorer Neto dedicated the win to Martinez. "We are really pleased. Shame for Emi [Martinez] but we wish you all the best. This win is for him," Neto told TNT Sports. "We need a clean sheet to be honest. I think we did a very good game. Emi deserved this, Mike [Penders] did as well. "We know that they came man-to-man. In the second half we adjusted some stuff. We tried to get the best of the man-to-man press and we got away. We got the cross and I could finish well, so really happy."

Martinez was transported to the hospital due to the severity of the head collision. Martinez's injury provided 21-year-old keeper Penders with the opportunity for his league debut. He successfully helped Chelsea maintain a clean sheet in the league for the first time since January, ending a streak of 22 games without one.
