US Central Command announced on Thursday the launch of a new multinational attack drone task force, titled Task Force Falcon Strike. This initiative will utilize one-way attack drones operated by US military support staff and regional partners, according to a statement from Centcom.
The announcement follows the previous establishment of the US military's first attack drone squadron in the Middle East, known as Task Force Scorpion Strike. Admiral Brad Cooper, the Centcom chief, stated that Task Force Falcon Strike aims to build upon the achievements of Scorpion Strike by harnessing innovation from regional allies and partners. He emphasized that integrating and deploying these new capabilities collaboratively will help quickly unlock future possibilities.
Task Force Scorpion Strike was previously integrated into offensive operations during the conflict with Iran. In July, the US confirmed it had executed its first one-way sea drone strike against an Iranian target.
Centcom noted that consultations are currently underway with regional partners to expand the task force further, with the ultimate goal of strengthening attack drone capabilities throughout the Middle East. Admiral Cooper highlighted the strength of regional friendships and partnerships, noting collective resilience through shared capabilities.
Drones have increasingly become a critical battlefield asset across the Middle East, prompting ongoing efforts by the US to advance its technology and operational reach. Last year, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth announced measures to cut through bureaucratic red tape, facilitating easier procurement and development of small drones for the US military.
