Security forces in Cairo have apprehended a woman featured in a widely circulated video clip, during which she was seen verbally assaulting a ride-hailing app driver. The footage showed the woman using offensive language and issuing threats against the driver, while falsely claiming her husband was a police officer. The Interior Ministry confirmed on Sunday that the driver, who resides in Qalyubiya Governorate, had been identified.
During questioning, the driver stated that on Saturday, while the woman was a passenger in his vehicle in the Nasr City area, she brought additional individuals, exceeding the car's legal capacity. When the driver requested she cancel the trip due to the overcrowding, the woman began to insult him verbally. This led the driver to record the incident as evidence.
The ministry further reported that the woman was identified and subsequently arrested. She resides in the Fifth Settlement. Upon confrontation, she confessed that she had never been married and that her assertion about being the wife of a police officer was a fabrication. This lie was intended to intimidate the driver after she objected to him filming her during the assault. Appropriate legal actions are currently being pursued in connection with the incident.
