Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar emphasized the critical role of the private sector in advancing Egypt's healthcare sector. This includes bolstering the localization of pharmaceutical and vaccine production, which currently satisfies over 91 percent of the domestic market's needs. The private sector is also key to managing healthcare facilities and delivering high-quality services.

These points were made during a high-level roundtable hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt. The event brought together leaders from the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, as well as representatives from major international and local companies in these sectors.

Minister Abdel Ghaffar detailed the core components of Egypt's national healthcare strategy and the government's commitment to ensuring all citizens, regardless of their governorate, have access to high-quality medical services. He highlighted a strategic shift from treating illnesses after they occur to a proactive approach focused on prevention through widespread screening and early detection programs.

He also noted President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's support for initiatives aimed at reducing hepatitis C infection rates, which led to Egypt receiving international Gold Tier recognition for its progress toward eliminating the disease. The Universal Health Insurance System and legislation supporting private-sector investment in healthcare infrastructure were also mentioned, providing investors with a secure and stable legislative environment.

The ministry is actively pursuing digital transformation and automating administrative processes for licensing medical facilities and registering pharmaceutical products, in close collaboration with the Egyptian Drug Authority. Minister Abdel Ghaffar stressed the government's dedication to fostering a transparent investment climate characterized by predictability and regulatory stability. This approach aims to reduce bureaucratic hurdles, facilitate the adoption of advanced technologies and modern treatment solutions in the Egyptian market, and thereby stimulate innovation and investment.

Furthermore, he affirmed that Egypt's healthcare system has proven its resilience amidst ongoing regional challenges and crises. He reiterated the government's commitment to removing barriers for both domestic and foreign investors, reinforcing Egypt's standing as a premier regional hub for healthcare and medical tourism.
