Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is facing scrutiny at Old Trafford following a difficult beginning to the season. Carrick stated that he does not require assurances from the club's leadership, as he understands that winning matches is the sole method to quell speculation surrounding his position. Prior to their Champions League fixture against Italian club Como on Wednesday, United has secured only two victories in their 10 matches across all competitions this season. The Red Devils are experiencing their most challenging start to an English top-flight campaign in four decades, having been eliminated from the League Cup by Brighton last month and suffering a decisive defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last week. Carrick was appointed permanent manager in May, following a successful interim period in the latter half of the previous season. However, he has rapidly become the latest manager to face pressure at Old Trafford, a club that has seen a decline since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013. Several Manchester United players are set to miss the upcoming trip to Como for their Champions League tie. "I understand that we must win football games for everything to progress and fall into place. That is the positive aspect; we have the ability to influence it," Carrick informed reporters at his pre-match press conference in Italy. "I do not need any reassurance. It is quite clear. "I am aware of the role and its responsibilities. I do not require anyone else to inform me of that, or to tell me when things are going well or when improvements are needed. I recognize that myself." Carrick's prospects of reversing the team's fortunes have been further hampered by an escalating injury list. Lisandro Martinez commenced Sunday's 1-1 draw at Leeds, despite his strong criticism of the club's transfer inactivity after the loss to Atletico, but was substituted at halftime. The Argentinian international will be absent for the journey to Como, as will Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford, Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu, and Ayden Heaven.
