Real Madrid secured their third consecutive victory in the Champions League, decisively defeating RB Leipzig 4-1 on Wednesday. Kylian Mbappe and Yan Diomande were among the goalscorers for Jose Mourinho’s formidable side. Bernardo Silva opened the scoring for Madrid from close range late in a tightly contested first half. Arda Guler then doubled the advantage for the record 15-time European champions shortly after the interval. Mbappe extended the lead with a curling effort before Tidiam Gomis managed to pull one back for the German team. Diomande sealed Madrid's triumph with a powerful volley into the top corner late in the match.

This fourth consecutive win across all competitions is expected to significantly boost Madrid's morale as they prepare for Sunday’s crucial La Liga Clasico against their fierce rivals Barcelona. After a two-season drought of major trophies and a somewhat shaky domestic start, Real Madrid can now boast a perfect record in Europe, a stark contrast to Barcelona's situation following their defeat at Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Mourinho fielded Vinicius, who is serving a four-match ban in La Liga, on the left flank and initially benched former Leipzig winger Diomande, despite the latter's recent improvement in form. The coach also made changes in midfield, bringing in Bernardo Silva and Eduardo Camavinga, and once again deployed midfielder Federico Valverde at right-back, a tactic he also used in Sunday's win at Sevilla.

The visitors, Leipzig, had the first significant chance of the game when Madrid's goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made a superb low save from Romulo Cardoso. Vinicius, who showed improvement from a less impactful performance at Roma last week, forced a full-stretch save from Leipzig's Maarten Vandevoordt.

Real Madrid took the lead in the closing stages of a subdued first half. Valverde cut the ball back for Guler, whose shot was saved by Vandevoordt. However, the goalkeeper could not fully clear the danger, and Silva was quick to react, prodding the ball over the line for his first goal for the club since joining this summer. Vandevoordt then made a strong save from Valverde's powerful shot before Guler doubled Madrid's lead in the 52nd minute. Following a cross from Jude Bellingham to the back post, Mbappe headed the ball across goal, allowing Guler to hold off a defender and score.

Mbappe struck the side netting after being set up by Bellingham as Madrid sought to secure the victory. With 20 minutes remaining, Mourinho introduced Diomande in place of Vinicius, who appeared visibly disappointed on the bench, aware that he cannot play again until November 4, when Madrid faces AEK Athens.

Madrid's record signing, Diomande, valued at 140 million euros ($157 million), assisted Mbappe on the edge of the box for Madrid's third goal, which the French forward expertly bent into the net. Leipzig quickly responded with a consolation goal as Dean Huijsen was caught out of position, allowing Gomis to fire past Courtois. Diomande concluded the scoring in emphatic fashion, smashing a volley from a Brahim Diaz cross into the top corner, marking his third goal in his last four appearances.
