Egypt is prioritizing the swift integration of Cypriot natural gas into its existing infrastructure and aims to deepen its collaboration with French energy giant TotalEnergies. This strategic move is intended to accelerate exploration, development, and production activities within the Mediterranean region. The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla, conveyed these objectives during a significant meeting with Julian Bouguet, TotalEnergies' Senior Vice President for Exploration and Production in North Africa and the Middle East. The discussion took place on the sidelines of the Mediterranean Petroleum Conference and Exhibition held in Alexandria.

The meeting, which also included Leila El Hares, TotalEnergies' Executive Director for Egypt, Lebanon, and Cyprus, provided a platform to review ongoing natural gas projects. Key among these was the progress on connecting Cyprus's Cronos gas field to Egypt, a collaborative effort involving the petroleum sector, Eni, and TotalEnergies. The participants also explored avenues for enhancing investments in gas exploration and production within Egypt's Mediterranean waters.

Minister El Molla emphasized that the advancements in this project underscore the critical importance of partnerships between governments and international energy corporations. He highlighted the role of high-level political backing from both Egyptian and Cypriot leadership in expediting implementation and fostering robust coordination among all involved parties. The project is poised to enable Cyprus to export its natural gas by utilizing Egypt's infrastructure for reception, processing, and subsequent re-export. This will not only solidify Egypt's position as a key regional gas trading hub but also generate mutual economic advantages.

Furthermore, Minister El Molla expressed Egypt's keen interest in expanding TotalEnergies' investments within the nation's natural gas sector. He reiterated the ministry's commitment to supporting such projects and actively seeking technical and commercial solutions to reduce costs, improve economic feasibility, and expedite investment decisions.

Representing TotalEnergies, Julian Bouguet commended the productive cooperation with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. He stated that the company continues to evaluate promising exploration prospects and identify areas with significant gas potential. Bouguet noted that enhanced access to technical data would significantly improve the assessment of exploration opportunities, and confirmed TotalEnergies' intention to persist with evaluating these prospects in the upcoming period.
