Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has been honored with a medal by the US-based Foreign Policy Association for his significant contributions to international mediation, diplomacy, and peacebuilding. The prestigious award acknowledges Qatar's ongoing diplomatic endeavors to resolve conflicts both within the Middle East and on a broader international scale.

The medal was presented during a ceremony held in New York on Thursday. Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, accepted the award on behalf of the Amir. The event was attended by Noel Lateef, President and CEO of the Foreign Policy Association, along with Vice-Chairperson Sana Sabbagh, board members, and other distinguished figures.

The Foreign Policy Association lauded the Amir’s leadership in fostering international peace and security. They specifically highlighted his dedication to promoting dialogue, peaceful conflict resolution, and multilateral cooperation. The association's board unanimously approved the award, recognizing the Amir’s role in enhancing understanding and collaboration among nations.

In her acceptance speech, Sheikha Alya emphasized Qatar's expanding role as an international mediator under the Amir’s guidance. She cited the country's diplomatic involvement in critical regions and conflicts, including Gaza, Afghanistan, Darfur, Chad, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Sheikha Alya outlined Qatar's mediation strategy, which is founded on two core principles: achieving sustainable peace through dialogue and ensuring that peace agreements are bolstered by reconstruction and development initiatives.

Furthermore, she underscored the importance of investing in education and opportunities for young people, positing these efforts as crucial for preventing the recurrence of conflict and establishing lasting stability in war-affected nations. Addressing current regional tensions, Sheikha Alya condemned Iran’s actions against Qatar and other Gulf countries, as well as the disruptions to maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Despite these challenges, she reaffirmed Qatar's support for the Pakistan-led mediation efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions between the US and Iran and pursuing a diplomatic resolution.

Sheikha Alya also highlighted the significance of maintaining open dialogue during conflicts and underscored Qatar's robust partnership with the US across various sectors, including security, energy, education, and investment. She conveyed the Amir’s gratitude to the Foreign Policy Association for the honor, characterizing the award as a testament to his commitment to advancing peace, diplomacy, and dialogue.
